Willow, Blue Arctic. Salix purpurea. USDA zones 4-8. 
 
The Blue Arctic Willow grows about 12' high and wide and produces blue-green leaves on reddish-purple stems. Its small greenish-yellow flowers emerge at the same time as the foliage and often go unnoticed but provide a wonderful source of food for pollinators. The superficial roots and adaptability to wet soil make the Blue Arctic a good choice to help control erosion on the banks of streams and rivers.
