Arborvitae, Thuja occidentalis 'Nigra.' USDA zones 3-8. Aka Dark American Arborvitae, is a popular, dense, evergreen shrub known for its deep green foliage, fast-growing habit, and pyramidal shape, making it excellent for tall, privacy hedges and windbreaks. It thrives in full sun to part shade with well-drained soil and has some deer resistance.
Grows 20–30 feet tall and 5–10 feet wide, often reaching mature height in 10-15 years
These are still young, small plants, but they can be easily sent to you and economically established in your yard or garden. Rooted cuttings are started from a parent plant and have all the same qualities as the parent. They can either be planted in pots, or directly in the ground. You can even bury a bundle of them in a pile of mulch for a week, a month, over over winter, covering all roots but leaving the foliage above the surface of the mulch. Then remove them from the mulch when you are ready to plant them. They can take some frost and freezing weather as long as the roots are under the surface of the soil or mulch.
