Goldenseal. Hydrastis canadensis. Grow in USDA zones z3-8. Very desirable and hard to find! Goldenseal is a perennial herb in the buttercup family and is native to almost the entire Eastern US, as well as parts of the midwest. It is a treasured medicinal herb, just about 2' high. The plant has a single flower in the spring, and berries appear in the summer. Does best in partial shade, often near wild ginger and Blue Cohosh.
