Hazelnut, American Corylus americana (species). USDA z4-9. Also called Filbert, it is a US native, multi-stemmed shrub and grows 8-16' tall. Flowers give way to small, egg-shaped, 1/2" long, edible nuts maturing in July-August. Prefers partial shade or edge of woods. Sold as a bare root plant, 18-24" plus roots.
