Winterberry. Ilex verticillata (species, not a cultivated variety) zones 3-9. Winterberry is a deciduous holly that is native to eastern North America where it typically occurs in swamps, low woods and along ponds and streams. It grows 5-10’ tall and similar width. Greenish-white flowers appear in late spring, which give way to a crop of bright red berries (1/4” diameter) in late summer to fall, often persisting through the winter. Spreads by suckers to form large mounds. It is dioecious (it has separate male and female plants) so plant several if fruit is desired.
This is an 8-12" bare root plant ready to go into a pot or into the ground.
