Black locust. Robinia pseudoacacia. USDA zones 3-8. Native to the eastern and southern US, but now naturalized throughout most of the country. Black Locust makes excellent fence posts since it is highly resistant to rot and insect damage. One of the best honeybee forage plants, with sweet nectar produced from its white spring flowers. Fast growing, very hardy, has thorns. Dormant bare root plant, 18-24" high+ roots.
