Buckhorn Moss. Diphasiastrum digitatum, used to be named Lycopodium digitatum. USDA zones 4-7. Aka Running Pine, Running Cedar, and Southern Running Pine. A clubmoss native to all the eastern US except Florida, and much of the midwest. Its leaves are scale-like, much like a cedar. Usually grows to a height of about 4”. Once was used widely for Christmas greens, it often grounds as an understory plant in conifer or oak forests. Grows in moist to dry shaded locations in acidic soil.
