Fern Royal Fern. Osmunda regalis. zone 3-9. Royal Fern is tall, growing 3-4′ high. Does best in shady, moist conditions. Fronds turn yellow to brown in the fall. Spores are located in the tassel-like fertile clusters at the tips of the fronds. This is a US native plant.
