Princess Pine, Dendrolycopodium obscurum, used to be named Lycopodium obscurum. 3-7. Aka ground pine. Native to all the eastern US except Florida, and some of the midwest, and into much of eastern and central Canada. It has the appearance of a small conifer, but usually stays less than 6” tall. Its main stem usually grows just under the surface, and is a creeping rhizome. Where plentiful, it is often used as greens for Christmas wreaths.
