Plum, American. Prunus americana (species). USDA z3-8. American, or wild plum, native to the US, is a small, deciduous, single trunk tree or multi-stemmed shrub. Pruned to a single stemmed tree, it grows to 15-25' tall with a broad, spreading crown. As a shrub, it suckers freely and can form large colonies. This is the native plum, not a large eating plum. Fruits best with 2 or more plants in the area. Sold as a nice, large, bare root plant, 24-36" plus roots.
