Spicebush. Lindera benzoin (species). USDA z4-9. Spicebush is a single- or few-stemmed, deciduous shrub, 6-12 ft. tall, with glossy leaves and graceful, slender, light green branches. It is dioecious (separate male and female plants) so plant several if fruit is desired. Female plants in the fall carry small red berries that turn from green to red. Grows 6-10' tall x 6-10' wide. Full sun to part shade. Valuable for wildlife food and habitat. Sold as a bare root plant, ready to go into the ground, 12-18" plus roots.
